Frequently Asked Questions - Translation Services
How do I get a translation quote?
Send us an
email to
info@document-translations.com or
translation@langjobs.com.
Who performs the translation?
Natives or
Expert translators. We do not use any kind of translation software or "machine
translation". We work with our network of more than 5000 translators throughout
the world. These are experienced individuals who, in addition to translation
credentials, have education and/or practical experience in a specific field or
fields. In this way, we are able to match the right translator to a given
document, based both on the language pair involved and on the subject matter.
How do you ensure an accurate translation?
Every
translation undergoes a multi-stage process which includes the initial
translation of the document by a member of our professional staff, a check by a
qualified editor to ensure translation accuracy and a proofreading stage to
catch content and formatting errors or omissions.
How do you charge for translation?
Translation
services are customarily charged per translated word. All per-word rates include
the translation itself, editing, and quality assurance procedures through
internal review. The per-word rate is based on the source language, unless
another arrangement is made. (If the source document is not available in
electronic form, the target language word count is used instead.) For other
services such as consulting, desktop publishing, etc., hourly rates apply.
How can I pay for this translation?
You may pay
by Bank Wire Transfer, Credit Card and Western Union etc. Due to efficiency and
your security, we prefer Credit Card through PayPal. We suggest payment through
PayPal because we feel they represent one of the most respected, trustworthy
online payment systems in the world. It's free to open an account and send us
payment with PayPal. You pay nothing extra other than our translation fee.
In which currency can I pay for a translation?
You may pay
in any currency using Bank Wire Transfer, Credit Card, PayPal and Western Union
etc.
Why are your prices lower than those of other translation
companies?
We work
hard to keep our overheads as low as possible. The savings achieved convert to
lower rates for our clients.
How can I get my translation 'certified'?
Lawyers
often ask that translations of court submissions or other official documents be
certified. Document Translations have several notary publics on its database who
are authorized to certify that work has been performed by a translator skilled
in both the source and target languages. As part of this certification, we
provide a short description of the translator's qualifications and background.
This should be attached to the original document and translation. Sometimes this
statement is called a "Certificate of Accuracy."
How will I receive the translation?
The default
delivery method is by e-mail in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF formats. In the
case of large documents, we can also provide translations on CD or DVD. You are
also welcome to request delivery by fax, post or courier, or simply collect it
from our offices. Please note that all courier charges will be for your account.
How long will it take to get my translation?
The normal
delivery time for your translation depends on how long it will take the
translator entrusted with your project to complete it. A single translator can
translate between 1,500 and 2,500 words in an 8-hour working day, an approximate
average of 2,000 words per day. For a text of less than 3,000 words, delivery
time is 72 hours (not including Sundays and holidays). If you have a very time
sensitive project, please call or e-mail us; we can ensure fast turnaround times
by assigning several certified translators and interpreters to your project.
Are you a translation agency?
Yes. We are
India’s leading translation agency.
What is Professional Translation?
Professional translation, also known as human translation, is a process
involving a bilingual person translating written documents from one language to
another.
What is machine translation?
Computer
programs as aids to translations have been around for a very long time; however,
so far none have come near to providing a degree of accuracy close to even the
worst human effort. Even though machine translation can be useful for very large
projects, such as a 5,000 page manual, it proves to be too expensive and
unsatisfactory for smaller documents.
What is the difference between interpretation and translation?
Translation
normally refers to written materials, i.e, going from one written medium to
another. Interpretation is spontaneous oral translation, from spoken word to
spoken word. Sometimes the term translation is used to mean either one. There
are hybrid situations: when you read a text in one language while reciting it
aloud in another, you are said to be sight-translating. Court interpreters often
sight-translate legal documents like plea agreements.
What is a full-service translation company?
A
full-service translation company, like ours, is one that provides clients with
translations that have been researched, edited, formatted and proofread by a
team of qualified language professionals. These steps are essential to the
production of a high-quality, accurate translation. We also provide a wide range
of translation-related media services, including desktop publishing, website and
software translation, and translation of audio and video presentations.
What is the difference between translation memory and machine
translation?
Translation
memory (TM) should not be confused with machine translation (MT). The major
difference is that in machine translation a computer translates the text, while
in translation memory systems, the computer only stores translated sentences. An
MT system attempts to replace a translator, whereas a TM system supports and
assists the translator with the translation process.
